Why it matters
The title and description are the first thing people see of your page in search results and when it's shared. A title that's cut off mid-word or a share card with no image gets fewer clicks, however good the page is.
Google cuts titles at about 600 pixels wide rather than a set number of characters, and each social network crops images differently. This tool measures the title the way Google does, shows the four places a link is most often seen, and writes the Open Graph and X tags that control them.
How to use it
- Type the page title, description and address, or paste existing HTML under Read the tags.
- Add the share image to check its size and see it in the previews.
- Adjust until the meters are green and nothing is cut off.
- Copy or download the tags and paste them into the page's <head>.
FAQ
How long should a title be?
Aim for 30 to 60 characters, and under about 600 pixels wide, which is what Google shows on desktop. Put the words people search for first.
How long should a meta description be?
120 to 160 characters. Google may rewrite it, but a clear, specific description is still used most of the time.
What size should a share image be?
1200×630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio), as a JPEG or PNG under 5 MB. Keep text away from the edges in case it's cropped.
Why can't I preview an image from a link?
To keep everything private, this page never loads anything from other sites. Choose the image file instead; the address you type is only used to write the tag.
