What it does
Encodes and decodes Base32 (RFC 4648 and Crockford), Base58 with Base58Check, Ascii85, Z85, Base64url and Base36, and reads ULIDs.
Base32 and Base32hex (RFC 4648) and Crockford Base32
Base58 (Bitcoin and Flickr) with Base58Check checksums
Ascii85 and ZeroMQ Z85
Base64, Base64url and Base36

Private by design
Everything happens in your browser. Nothing you type, paste or upload is sent anywhere, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

Why it matters
Base64 isn't the only way to turn bytes into text. TOTP secrets use Base32, Bitcoin addresses and IPFS hashes use Base58, PDF and PostScript use Ascii85, ZeroMQ uses Z85, and ULIDs use Crockford Base32. Each exists for a reason, such as avoiding characters that look alike or fitting in URLs.
This tool encodes and decodes all of them from text, hex or a file, checks Base58Check checksums so you can spot a mistyped address, and shows the same bytes in every encoding side by side to compare their lengths.

By the numbers
Encoded by this tool. Base64 adds a third; Base32 adds 60% but survives case changes and avoids confusing letters; Base58 drops 0, O, I and l so people can copy it by hand. Ascii85 includes its <~ ~> delimiters here. Source: RFC 4648.Show the numbers as a table

Press 'Use output as input' to check it round-trips.
FAQ
Why does Base58 leave out some characters?
0, O, I and l are left out so people can't confuse them when reading or typing an address.
What's Base58Check?
Base58 with a 4-byte checksum from a double SHA-256, so a typo is detected instead of sending money to the wrong address.
What's a ULID?
A 128-bit ID like a UUID that sorts by creation time. The first 10 characters are the time in milliseconds.
